Collection of forest reproductive material

The collection of forest reproductive material under the project continues for 4th consecutive year.

Due to heavy rainfall during the period of bloom in the autumn of 2014 oaks did not bear the expected amount of acorns. Nevertheless, in some regions like the southern slopes of Vitosha mountains enough seeds could be found and forest experts continued with the collection activities. Our work included the collection of acorns form and 600 years old oak tree (Q. pubescens) near the village of Bosnek that is vital enough to reproduce.

Since project start in 2011 more than 2300 kg. of seeds are collected under the project and used for the production of seedlings and reforestation activities in project target sites.
